6.1 Reflect on teaching practice in support of student learning

Evidence: Reflective Journal - On a bi-daily basis, I spend time completing a reflective journal. I answer similar questions per journal entry to reflect on my teaching practices. I also spend time setting goals for the upcoming week or future lesson. I pick two focus students to identify areas of needs or what I had observed on that given day.

Evidence: Comprehension Tips - Reflective Teaching: After a guided reading lesson, I reflected on my teaching of comprehension skills. To develop my ability, I research new comprehension tips using the EDUTOPIA website. On this website, I am able to access new tips to further support my students' reading development.

Evidence: In order to stay current with research, I watch various ted talks on their website and on youtube. I also spend time researching new cognitive findings in terms of education. One website I utilize to stay up to date on research is Virtual Lab School, this site allows me to learn how to cognitively support students.

Evidence: Rocket Blasts Weekly Emails - I utilize these emails to research new strategies for my reading groups. I am able to learn new science surrounding students' language and reading development. In addition, I send these emails to parents for their own reference.

Evidence: Reflective Teaching TedTalk - To further advance my professional goals, I watch a ted talk where Solomon Au Yeung discusses reflective teaching and how to apply this to our own teaching practices and continuous reflection.

Evidence: I actively participate in many online resources to grow professionally. I participate in daily blog posts from teachers pay teachers bloggers. I am also a part of many facebook groups that frequently discuss professional growth. Evidence: Professional Learning Community Notes - Each time we meet for our PLC meeting, we create specific points for discussion and make sure to cover each section. This allows us more goal-setting time and discussing individual student needs during our PLC meetings.

Evidence: Lesson Observation - To better perform my own guided reading lesson, we watch videos of experienced intervention teachers and reading specialists. We have a large team of intervention teachers that have become specialists and we are given the opportunity to observe them through a video they created while conducting a guided reading lesson.
6.4 Work with families to support student learning

Evidence: Monthly Newsletters - I create a monthly newsletter for parents. It includes important dates, upcoming events, and focus for learning. I also include resource pages that include additional resources for parents to utilize with their children. I post the monthly newsletter on our google classroom and send it to parents.

Evidence: Family Read Aloud Nights - Homework Assignment - To support our struggling readers, we inform parents of the importance of having a family read aloud each night. We inform parents about the importance of reading to their child each night. We also provide parents with books that they can read to their child in order to advance their listening comprehension skills.
6.5 Engage local communities in support of the instructional program

Evidence: Additional Reading Resources - To support and engage students, I offer multiple resources for research. Students are completing an animal research project, I provided additional resources to research each animal that is more easily accessible to parents and families.

Evidence: The district provides many resources that support the homeless population of students. In order to better understand the homeless students, I utilize the “Who Is Homeless” district site. It defines the Mckinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and support educators in our district with supporting homeless youth in our community.

6.6 Manage professional responsibilities to maintain motivation and commitment to all students

Evidence: Reflective Conversation - Friday Debrief with Kindergarten Team - On Fridays, the other kindergarten teacher and I spend 30 minutes debriefing about the week. We share two positives and one focus area for the week. We discuss any concerns or needs we may have recognized during the week.

Evidence: Weekly Intervention Lunch - Each week, the intervention team has a lunch together to discuss our weeks. We are able to discuss and motivate one another through reflective conversations while keeping a positive attitude. We also discuss the activities that we participate in outside of work that support the balancing of our work and our personal lives.

Evidence: Positive Demeanor in Classroom and within School Community - To continue to show a positive demeanor in the classroom, I always give incentive and feedback. In my classroom, I always provide students with positive reinforcement. In terms of positive demeanor within the school community, I always greet students and peers in the hallways.

Evidence: To progress in this standard, I review the district handbook at the beginning of each school year or when I have specific questions. For example, when needing to identify a district or site policy, I access this information through the district website. There are also frequent emails that are sent out to educators within the district.
