Technology Position Statement
As technological innovations arise, our world is increasingly becoming digital, which is ultimately affecting education and student learning. The new technologies that are being introduced and implemented into classrooms are advancing student learning and creating new positive learning experiences that allow students to become self-driven and independent learners.
As educators we must be learners through technology by becoming continuous researchers. In order to continuously improve instruction and our pedagogy, educators must stay up to date with the technological innovations that are being brought forth in the realms of education. Educators who are learners must explore and inquire in team settings with other professionals to advance their knowledge of technology. As professionals collect new data and information on effective teaching practices, educators should utilize technology to further advance their implementation of instructional strategies that will meet the diverse learning needs of all students. The ultimate goal of being a learner is to advance student learning.
We must also be leaders, educators must support and empower students by providing them with the tools to utilize digital technologies. As students learn to use new technologies they become more independent in their use, which will utilize, extend and enhance learning. In addition, educators must advocate for equal access to technology for all students to provide equitable access to learning opportunities. In addition, students have diverse learning needs that can ultimately be supported through such technologies. To be a leader, we must also share our gained knowledge of technological advances to support other professionals in the field of education. We must try and model new digital tools that supplement educational experiences for our students.
